March Madness in 3rd Class!

March has been a very busy and exciting month in 3rd class. We have been learning all about the Irish famine in History and are investigating the growth of broad bean seeds. We have had lots of things to celebrate already in March- Pancake Tuesday, World Book Day and Seachtain Na Gaeilge.

Pancake Tuesday

We got to make our own pancakes in school. Ms Heavey flipped a pancake up high. We got to choose three different toppings. We could choose from lemon, sugar and strawberry syrup. Gill brought in a crepe maker. Sixth class helped us to make the pancakes. We also had no homework because the whole class got 2000 dojo points! We had a great day!

Seachtain na Gaeilge & Bodhran

During Seachtain na Gaeilge we learnt some Irish songs and dances. Every Monday we learn the bodhran and enjoy it a lot! Our teacher is called Robbie. We really like learning a new skill and have great fun playing it!

The Famine

In history we were learning about the Famine. We learnt about how many people left Ireland because of the potato blight and emigrated to America, Britain and Canada. We wrote diary entries about a family leaving Ireland and painted some portraits of a family emigrating. We enjoyed learning about the famine because it was interesting.

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day in school by writing our very own books using our favourite characters. Each of our books is special and unique. World Book Day is special to us because we love to read and it is only celebrated once a year. We did some paired reading with fifth class and shared our stories with them. We also had a book fair in school and bought some lovely books.
