On the 26th March the inaugural members of the Student Council went to visit County Hall, in South Dublin County Council. We had the opportunity to meet the Mayor, ask him questions in the Mayor’s office and even sit in the Council Chamber. We were working so hard we felt obliged to eat a few muffins!
The representatives were able to ask the Mayor, Mark Ward questions in relation to how he became a Mayor, the reasons why he became a Counsellor and how his role and the County Council affects the lives of people across the county.
We had the opportunity to see the Council Chamber, sit in the Mayor’s and councillor's seats and press the very important bell. Perhaps, we should have bells for teachers in the classroom for when their time is up!
Our representatives asked the Mayor a range of important questions: How long he works everyday, how many meetings he would have, local issues for our school: litter in Balrothery and planning issues such as yard space in our school. Unfortunately, he couldn’t answer all questions but offered ideas (and names) for us to raise our issues and further our ideas.
You can look forward to continued service from the Student Council working on issues from Scoil Aonghusa Senior in the future.
