Scoil Aonghusa Senior has been participating in the South Dublin County Council X country races for the over the last few years.
Three of the X country races are held in Tymon park for some schools in Tallaght and the Rathfarnham between February and April each year. A finals day is held in May in Corcagh Park in Clondalkin for all the schools involved in Dublin. Races are separated by gender and by class groups. Each child represents the school team, not the individual. Results are recorded and carried forward to the finals day.
Distances the children run are as follows:
3rd class 300 up to 400 metres
4th class 400 up to 500 metres
5th class 500 up to 600 metres
6th class 600 up to 700 metres.
Unfortunately, only 50 children can participate per school. It is always a tough choices to pick 50 children from the for the X country running squad as every year there is a lot of interest.
The running squad have been training with Ms. O'Leary and Ms. Ralph at lunch times. Some members of the squad are so committed that they even practice on their own, outside school hours!
